URBAN INFILL DUPLEX

This is a suburban infill project building onto an existing home to subdivide and create a duplex dwelling. Infill housing is one option with densitification, and it was important that this was a clever Architectural reponse to both the existing and new buildings.

Key design aspects to this project are maximizing site space but going up, not out. Orientation for the views and sun and providing privacy both to the new occupants to the development and to the existing occupants of the original home. Light and a sense of space where key words that the client used in our first meeting which we knew was important to a denser urban living solution. The form is simple, with shading considered for summer and orientation to living areas priority over the south facing service areas.

Multi storied, this project carefully considered movement not only on a horizontal plane, but on a vertical plane too, give a sense of space and light, but also practicality and easy of living.
