This is a rural house for a family with two young boys. The spaces have been considered to allow the couple's parents to come stay for extended periods, encouraging family interaction whilst still provide space for the boys to retreat to.
The entry provides divide to the boys wing and the rest of the house allowing the option of a home-stay business in the future and in the meanwhile giving the boys a place to make their own. Views towards Pirongia, Maungatautari and Te Aroha are balanced with the homes northern orientation and glazing arrangement. The client requested "honest" materials giving rise to a palate of sealed concrete floors, metal cladding and cedar weatherboards.
