Buildings have a sense of personality and it is important when dealing with existing spaces that this is recognised and used to its maximum potential. Life and style since the 1940s has changed considerably and spaces need to be upgraded to make our housing stock ready for the next 50 years of use. This is my own home, so the pressure to bring my Architectural Design skills to the table came from a very personal space. 

This 1940s state house, which is my own, was cold, dark, small and had limited connection to the outside spaces whenI purchased it. By reducing and simplifying the spaces using open plan living, outdoor connection and making use of the existing ceiling space, this house has been given a new more modern lease of life. External walls have been insulated along with the ceiling and underfloor to make this house warmer, extract fans and pelmets installed to help reduce the moisture build up and diversity used to ensure resilience. The native timbers have been celebrated and complemented by a simple textural colour scheme. Future growth has been considered in the design along with option to install solar systems.

The result, is now a home I happy in, and feel comfortable and proud to live in. Something I wish for all my clients.
